On this page you will find information about some of the AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) equipment and voice output devices that are pictured on the website and mentioned in the ‘How to use this song’ section.
Voice Output Communication Aids (VOCA's) This section gives a brief description of some of the devices. You can record voice and song easily onto the device so that an AAC singer can join in with everyone else.
Step-by-Step Communicator from Ablenet BIG Step-by-Step from Ablenet Sequencer from Adaptivation You can record several ‘chunks’ of speech or song onto these devices. It will then speak or sing in the same order that you put it in. Always place a picture related to what the device will say when it is activated. It is important to record in a voice that is similar in age and gender to the person who will be using it, if you are able to.
Eclipse This is a device that has an overlay. You can have just one, two, four, eight or more sections. You can record words and songs into the device, so when an AAC singer presses the square or activates it in some other way, then you hear what has been recorded in.
The Etran Frame This is a vertical Perspex frame that stands on a surface. Learners can make choices by looking at the symbol of the thing they want to choose.
4Talk4 from Traxsys Scan4 from Traxsys This is a voice output device that has 4 large coloured buttons, each with its own message. You can use them in many ways e.g. you could record each button with a line of a song, and put a symbol representing that line on the button.
Partner One Stepper This single panel device also enables you to step through a sequence. The neat thing about this is that you can reverse the sequence by pressing a button on the back.
GoTalk These devices are available with 4, 9 or 20 message cells. They also have 5 levels, so you could record and keep the messages for 5 songs at a time.
